Voting Home / The Colonial Theatre
Nominated for: BEST Indie Theater
Opened in 1903, the Colonial is the last surviving of four theatres once existing in the borough. It is the only theatre of its kind in Chester County. The Colonial was first home to live stage shows, vaudeville acts and musicals. World famous entertainers such as Harry Houdini and Mary Pickford performed here and the first stage show, The Beauty Doctor, starred internationally known actor Fred E. Wright.
The Colonial Theatre is one of the best places to catch a movie. They are second to none at keeping the joy of watching movies in a theatre alive and well. Forget those joyless mega chain theatres. The Colonial is the real deal. From great current independent films, to classic cinema, to cult classics, the Colonial has it all. Plus they host other great events like concerts, comedians, and live talks. The Colonial is a real gem.

All the indie movies, plus Rocky Horror, Blob Fest and MST3K nights. That's gotta beat the theaters doing movies only, no?
