Voting Home / The Colonial Theatre
Nominated for: BEST Indie Theater
Opened in 1903, the Colonial is the last surviving of four theatres once existing in the borough. It is the only theatre of its kind in Chester County. The Colonial was first home to live stage shows, vaudeville acts and musicals. World famous entertainers such as Harry Houdini and Mary Pickford performed here and the first stage show, The Beauty Doctor, starred internationally known actor Fred E. Wright.

If you like real independent theaters, the Colonial is your best bet. If you like independent theaters that are part of the predictable corporatist faux-indie cohort, then vote for one of the other likely candidates. Except for the State Theater. They're OK, too.

There's something special about a movie theater that plays Monthy Python's Holy Grail and The Princess Bride :-)

Take a walk back in time. Nothing beats the nostalgia of this historic treasure. Popcorn is not over salted like all the other theaters. Great selection of restaurants in Phoenixville. A great night out.
