Voting Home / Silk City
Nominated for: BEST Live Music Venue
The Silk City Diner and Lounge have a long history in Philadelphia, although only since 1990 under the current management. Built in 1958 in Patterson, NJ by the Patterson Dining Compnay, its name is derived as a result of the silk trade industry (Patterson being the "Silk City), so prevelent in Patterson at that time - the name stuck as the model for the dining car construction. The dining car was moved here to Philadelphia at 5th and Spring Garden in the mid-60's, and has served Philadelphians breakfast, lunch and dinner happily since then. The club itself has always been there, although the main entrance to the diner was moved (from the normal dining car entrance in the middle of the car on the street) to accomodate access to both the diner and lounge, now under the same management.
