Nominated for: BEST Museum
Independence Seaport Museum has the biggest toys in town -- the 1892 Cruiser Olympia, Admiral Dewey's Spanish American War flagship, and the WWII Submarine Becuna. Both ships are National Historic Landmarks, berthed in the basin behind the Museum, and open to the public. The Museum, which showcases the Philadelphia region's maritime heritage, has two floors of interactive exhibits, a working wooden boat shop, a nautical gift shop, a concert hall, and one of the nation's premier regional maritime research centers, and offers group tours, educational and public programs, and a full calendar of special events.
