The Hiway Theatre has been an important cultural landmark for the Jenkintown area since it opened in 1913. The theatre now operates as a member supported, community theatre with the mission to foster community through offering a unique cinematic experience that enlivens the human spirit, fosters dialogue and promotes learning in an unparalleled environment.
The theatre has undergone a renovation, which blends new interior finishes with some original fixtures to achieve the look and feel of a retro movie house, complete with new seating for the auditorium, new projection and sound equipment and an expansion of the lobby. As a movie house that can trace its history to the silent era, the Hiway is unique as it is one of the few one-screen theatres that primarily carries first run films in addition to providing special programming and monthly film discussions.
