The tour, guided by Joe Wojie, is not like the typical historical tours of Old City led by latern holding, minimum-wage paid guides who memorize a script. Joe Wojie is a professor and historian full of knowledge and facts about the history and culture of Philadelphia dating back to our founding fathers.
He starts by describing what the landscape and architecture would have looked like in the ages of Washington and Jefferson including the reconstruction of buildings to replicate the designs of the past. Over the next hour and a half-2 hours, Mr. Wojie takes you on a journey of the relevant history that occurred in the area. The tour themed, 'Grim Philly' also has some underlying 'dark' themes such as war stories, ghost tales, plagues, disease, crime and punishment. Mr. Wojie describes in detail what it would have been like to live life as a former president, a prostitute as well as a former convicted criminal.
This tour is not scripted and participation/questioning makes it all the more interesting.
As a Philly native, a fan of history and the macabre- this tour is by far the BEST. Skip the theatrics and go with Wojie.

This was a blast! A whole mess of historical tidbits that you'll never learn on any other tour - if you like the dark side, delivered with irreverent humor, this is a tour you need to take!
