Along came Craig Mosmen and Mike Cassano, two University of Delaware grads with degrees in 'Great Pizza'. Soon they dreamt up an idea... "Manayunk needs a gourmet pizza cafe'! But hey, let's serve fresh and exciting salads too! " From there, a seed was planted way back in 2003. (Or, shall we say, a dough-ball was formed?)
After months of hard work, and a little practice making all those great pizza topping, salad-spinning, mouth-watering combinations come alive, Craig & Mike celebrated thier grand opening on September 13th, 2003. Together with Jack Johnson on the stereo, a life-size tomato-girl running amuck, and friends and family helping behind the counter, opening day went off without a hitch.
Craig and Mike haven't looked back since. (Have they had the chance?) Now, their "little pizza shop in Manayunk" has developed into "That great cafe' on Main Street". Passers-by no longer grumble, "Huh? The Couch Potato?"....oooh no...they now proclaim at the top of their lungs "I love the Buffalo Chicken Pizza from The Couch Tomato!"
By 2011, the cafe' expanded into the upstairs of the building, offering the customers 75 more seats and a more formal dining room, perfect for a night out with friends, family, or even for date-night. This new branch to the well known cafe' is called The Tomato Bistro, and offers many cafe' inspired gourmet pizzas, salads, sandwiches and soups with a bistro twist. You will also find a unique small plates menu for dinner, along with a great variety of craft beers and wines, priced just right!
